We speak to the founder of Nurturing by Nature - Nettie

Making raw since 2004!

Inspired by Fred in 2004, Nettie founded Nurturing by Nature. Initially intended to help her Boxer, Fred, the venture has since grown to nourish dogs across the area—and now, we help dogs all over the UK!

It's sometimes hard for me to imagine that all of this first started in my kitchen, and I am especially proud of the fact that we have stayed true to our values. We have worked hard with our suppliers over the years to build trusted relationships through site visits and factory tours. At the time, these efforts may have seemed a little over the top, but now, these relationships have allowed us to maintain the consistently high-quality supply of ingredients into our business that you are accustomed to.

We are proud of the consistant high quality of the food we produce.

We operate in an industry that, regrettably, is often content with using inferior quality products, such as rendered meats and cereals, which, while ostensibly healthy, are far from it in reality. A major reason Nurturing by Nature was established stemmed from my fundamental mistrust of manufacturers, particularly within the pet food market. Alongside nurturing these conscientious relationships, we were fortunate to have had the foresight to stock up on essential cleaning and PPE supplies at the beginning of 2020. This preparation saw us through until the end of May, when, although items were a little more expensive, most supplies became available once more.

We have all had to adapt for this!

The change for me in the shops felt a bit like stepping back in time! Having one customer in the shop at a time has really allowed me to reconnect with you, which, dare I say, I have thoroughly enjoyed. Keeping my hands off the dogs and puppies is tough, but I'm glad we can continue our weight check and food consulting services, albeit from a safe distance. Implementing time slots for collections and shopping has proven to be very efficient—how convenient is it to arrive at the shop and have your order ready to pick up at a designated time? We've received positive feedback on this service, so we'll keep tweaking and improving it, and eventually, we'll create a diary booking system as we further develop the business.

A huge thank you to all of you for your patience, for adhering to our sanitization protocols upon entry, and for your continued support of Nurturing by Nature. I am incredibly proud to say that we've also managed to deliver to those of you who chose this service at home. We've adapted rapidly, with almost a 300% increase overnight in our delivery service (both local and via DPD). Our new dispatch center in Upton couldn't have come at a more opportune time—having only started using it at the beginning of the year, all the team has worked tirelessly through this crisis. With four vans on the road delivering locally, it's been a massive effort.

It goes without saying that production has had to ramp up, and the customer service team has had to adapt—it's not easy working from home; I understand that!
