Raw feeding is gaining momentum, but the reality is that much of the pet food industry operates under minimal oversight compared to human food. When our founder founded Nurturing by Nature in the early 2000s, she made a bold decision: to go beyond what was legally required in the UK, to manufacture to standards many larger brands don’t reach.

We proudly hold an APHA Raw Pet Food Manufacturing Licence but we didn’t stop there. We voluntarily design our process to mirror BRCGS Food Safety Standards, the same benchmarks used in human-grade food production. (Note: we don’t hold formal accreditation in the human sector, but our internal controls mimic those rigorous standards.)

This means every batch of raw pet food you receive is handled with systems built for safety, traceability, and integrity, as if your pet’s welfare is the only thing that matters.

Behind the scenes is a robust Quality Management System (QMS), led by our in-house expert Susan Sharp, DipQ. Her mission? To ensure nothing slips through the cracks. Key pillars include:

• Full traceability: every ingredient — from protein to micro-additive — is sourced and documented.


• Rigorous hygiene & safety protocols: cleaning regimes, cross-contamination controls, and environmental swabs.


• Continuous staff training & internal audits: no one operates on “habit” alone.


• Risk-based hazard controls: we assess and preempt hazards (biological, chemical, physical).


• Supplier approval & verification: we vet and audit our suppliers to ensure alignment with our high standards.
