Do I Need to Feed Kibble Alongside a Raw Diet, for the Crunch?

The simple answer is no. The real question should be: Who exactly is the crunch for?

To start, kibble is processed differently—it's cooked, it's dry, it takes longer to digest, and your pet has to work much harder to absorb the nutrients, if they can at all. Have you noticed your pet's poo? Is there more to pick up when they're on kibble? That's because they're either not digesting the food properly, or the ingredients are mainly fiber (fillers!). A raw diet is naturally more hydrating, contains natural nutrients, and is almost completely digested. Raw-fed dogs' poos are smaller because they're absorbing more of their meals naturally.

If you do have a big bag of kibble to use up, or you still wish to feed kibble, we'd suggest feeding these meals separately. Allow your pet's gut to digest each type of meal properly.

Now, ask yourself: Is the crunch for you or for them?

Crunch for Pets?

If you think the crunch is for your pet, then think again. Instead of offering kibble, why not throw in a chicken carcass, a lamb rib, or a marrow bone? The enrichment your pet receives from crunching on these natural items far surpasses that of kibble. When your dog or cat tackles a marrow bone or pulls meat from a lamb rib, their body releases endorphins, providing a significant health benefit. Moreover, the natural act of crushing through soft bones helps to scrape tartar from their teeth and build jaw and neck muscles—making raw pet food a comprehensive choice for dental health.

Crunch for Humans?

If the crunch is for your satisfaction, you're still in luck! Seeing your pet engage with their food naturally and enthusiastically is incredibly rewarding. Offering your pet an enriching, natural meal a couple of times a week is far more satisfying than watching them mindlessly gulp down a bowl of kibble."

"Wet tinned food and kibble have a tendency to stick to your pet’s teeth, resulting in bad breath and tartar buildup. In contrast, bones and natural pet treats, like the variety we sell at Nurturing by Nature, all support cleaning the teeth naturally."
